When Amy from Peek-a-boo Patterns contacted me recently asking if I was interested in reviewing one of her patterns I jumped at the opportunity! If you have already discovered Peek-a-boo Patterns you'll know just how fantastic their pattern range is.
I've originally came across Amy over at her blog Naptime Crafters. If my memory serves me correctly, one of my first linky parties that I ever participated in was with Naptime Crafters. So I've been a fan for a while.
Here in Australian sewing circles, Sailor Shorts are huge right now. I'd seen others create shorts similar to the Peek-a-boo Patterns version and bowing to peer pressure had given myself a mental note to make some myself.
All Peek-a-boo patterns are available to purchase online via the website in pdf and are really simple to print, cut and piece together. They come complete with a second pdf tutorial with lots of step by step pictures to guide you along the way. Amy has just also included metric size charts, materials charts & cutting charts... which is awesome for me, since metric is what I've grown up with here in Australia!
The Sailor Shorts would have to be my most complicated pattern that I have used to date and is definitely suited to intermediate sewing enthusiasts. But when I say complicated, they weren't all that hard to make! I'm just normally inclined to take the easy route and use basic patterns or draft my own.
From printing out the pattern to sewing the last stitch, these shorts took me all of about 3 hours to complete. I think next time I make them I could whip them up even quicker. There were a few parts that I had to reread to make sure that I was on the right track, but I'm extremely happy with finished product.
Now for the part you really came here for.....

DeleteI got so excited by the competition...I love Peek-a-Boo patterns...that I didn't see that this competition was based on creativity. Now I wouldn't say I am overly creative anyway, but here goes. :)
DeleteThe reasons for my picks...
1. Hopscotch Top, Tunic & Dress - Not only is this the most adorable little top, in choosing this "top" pattern you also get a tunic and dress pattern. Bonus! Those fun flutter sleeves are just darling and I can just imagine how many of these I would have to make for friends.
2. Ruffle Bum Romper - What can I say apart from RUFFLES!! I have a friend with a 4 month old little girl that is too cute in ruffles, I have to make this for her! She is such a cutie and I am yet to find an outfit that is just as cute as her until now.
3. Ivy Sun Dress - I think one of the main reasons for picking this pattern is because the outfit on the pattern is striped, I am stripe, spot and chevron obsessed at the moment. Though this outfit just looks so light and summery, with its thin adjustable straps and loose fitting body.
4. Waikiki One-Piece Swim Suit - Again...RUFFLES! :) The little ruffle across the neckline and those ruffles across the bum are so cute. I have lots of friends with little boys but I just find girl ruffle outfits too adorable and maybe discriminate a little bit. :( lol
5. Alex & Anna Summer PJs - I love that you can make mix and match sets with this pattern and it is perfect for the heat that we have been experiencing in Sydney lately, plus this way I have also picked a pattern for those little boys that I have been neglecting because of ruffles.
It was so hard to pick one from each category, I absolutely love these sailor shorts that you have made Cass, but the ruffles just beat them. Thank you for running such a fantastic (as always) competition. :)

ReplyDeleteMy choices are:
1. MOLLY SCHOOLGIRL BLOUSE

2 Bubble shorts
3 Vivienne Party Dress (cause I'm already thinking about next Chrissy)
4 Santa Monica Sweetheart Tankini

I already follow you both, how can a girl not?!? In fact, YOU were the very first blog I EVER 'followed'!! My picks would have to be...
ReplyDelete1-Molly School Girl Blouse (how divine! very 1950's AND my daughters name is Molly!!)
